Comprehensive Eye Exam

A comprehensive eye examination is recommended for patients of all ages on an annual basis. Patients usually present for an exam when they are in need of a new glasses and/or contact lens prescription. In addition to this, eye exams are the best way for early detection and proper management of a variety of ocular health conditions.

Pediatric Eye Exam

Because infants and toddlers cannot properly identify and communicate to parents if they are having any vision problems, it is critical that children begin getting their eyes checked at an early age. Although it is common for most babies to have normal vision and normal ocular development, some may have congenital eye conditions that go undetected for years. Children often adapt to how they see the world, especially if they have nothing to compare it to. Our goal is to help improve their quality of life and enhance their visual potential as they grow, even if they are not noticing any problems.

Conditions that may be detected during a pediatric eye exam include:

congenital glaucoma, congenital cataracts, retinoblastoma, retinopathy of prematurity, nystagmus, strabismus ("lazy eye"), farsightedness, nearsightedness, astigmatism

Preventative Eye Care

Utilizing the latest technology in retinal imaging, the Optomap, we are able to detect very early signs of many ocular diseases that were considered subclinical and were often missed. Performing the Optomap in addition to dilation is the perfect combination to thoroughly provide early detection and treatment. The main advantage of the Optomap over traditional retinal cameras is that it can provide a field of view of up to 200 degrees in a matter of seconds. This extensive retinal image is then incorporated into a patient's medical records for baseline and photodocumentation purposes to help manage a patient's ocular health over time.

Eye Diseases - Cataracts, Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration and more

Early detection of ocular health conditions is key. Different eye diseases may be present with no symptoms at all, or even a vague blurring of vision, which may be mistaken for needing a new glasses prescription. A dilated retinal evaluation and Optomap retinal imaging are the best ways to diagnose, manage, and monitor the state of the eyes over time. When surgical intervention is necessary, eye care would then be co-managed with an ophthalmologist so that the treatment process continues uninterrupted.

Glasses and Contact Lenses

We have an extensive frame selection that will fit a variety of needs, whether it be for everyday wear, computer work, reading, and/or sunglasses. Several of our frame lines are hand-crafted with care and are available nowhere else in Katy/Fulshear. We take great pride in our frame offerings as it is personalized and unique to our office. We are excited to showcase why supporting independent frame lines increases patient satisfaction.

Contact lenses are a great option for patients who desire freedom from wearing glasses full-time. In children and teens, it may be a great confidence booster. Since eyes come in a variety of shapes and sizes, not one contact lens design fits all. For this reason, we provide daily disposable contact lenses, biweekly/monthly contact lenses, and gas-permeable lenses. For eyes that have had refractive surgery and/or irregular corneal surfaces that may not be a candidate for soft lenses, scleral contact lenses may be a great option as a specialty contact lens evaluation.

UV Protection

Since most people are exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light on a daily basis, it is very important to start protection of the eyes at an early age. Excess exposure to sunlight can cause unwanted tissue growth on the white part of the eyes, exacerbate the onset of cataracts, and is a known risk factor for macular degeneration. To reduce eye exposure to sunlight, photochromic lenses (lenses that darken in the sunlight) and/or polarized sunglasses provide the best protection. Please ask our certified-optician Julie on our lens offerings and what may be best for you.

Red Eyes - Eye Infections

Prompt treatment and care is critical when you get a red eye. Some may be as harmless as mild allergies, but some red eyes can be signs of more serious underlying systemic conditions. Treating your red eye is not only benefitial to you, it is also beneficial to those around you by preventing the spread of infection.

LASIK & Cataract Surgery

We are not a surgical center, but if you are interested in LASIK, cataract surgery and/or other minor procedures for the eyes, we co-manage with a group of Katy surgeons for your convenience. To ensure optimal surgical outcomes, we provide pre-operative and post-operative evaluations here at our office. Please ask the staff or doctor if you are needing surgical services.
